I’m back from my mini-vacation to Lake Placid, where my wife and I went to cheer on our oldest son as he competed in the Ironman race last Sunday (see photos below). He did very well, surpassing all his goals: he finished in under 12 hours (11:51 — 35th out of 136 in his age group and 366th out of 1,505 among men) and he ran a sub-4 hour marathon (3:56) after swimming 2.3 miles and cycling 111 miles.
He surpassed all my goals too: he crossed the finish line smiling and healthy, although I think it took him until Thursday to start walking normally again.
My wife and I stayed a few extra days in the area to enjoy the Adirondacks, doing some hiking and cycling of our own. When we got home last night, however, the lock securing our bikes to the car bike rack…
