The first time I visited Barcelona, I lost my ability to sleep.
The sun went down, it got late, I went to bed, but I never got sleepy. I was up all night.
One night of insomnia. It happens. It’s normal.
Two nights later, the sun went down again, and once again, sleep never came.
The pattern continued for another week. One night of sleep, one night of no sleep. Then the pattern changed: every night, no sleep. Even after I returned home.
This was the beginning of a four-month nightmare, during which my physical and mental health declined to the point where I checked myself into the hospital. The turning point, as strange as it sounds, came when I was diagnosed with thyroid cancer in late January 2024.
Fast forward to this week, and I’m back in Barcelona for Kinaxis’ Kinexions EMEA 2026 conference. I led a workshop with executives from leading logistics service providers (LSPs), where we explored several questions: What business are LSPs really in today? How is their value proposition changing? And what will drive growth and competitive differentiation in the years ahead?
I’ll share my takeaways from the workshop, as well as the rest of the conference, in a future post, so stay tuned.
After the conference ended, I had some unfinished business to take care of.
