Since 2017, Descartes has conducted an annual benchmark survey of global transportation professionals to identify strategies, tactics, and expectations for the industry. Running the study year after year reveals how trends evolve over time. AI Agents in Transportation Management

Agentic AI — software agents that monitor live data and autonomously take routine actions on your behalf (within guardrails) — are moving from pilots to practice, including in transportation management. This survey asked about: (1) which logistics activities are best suited for agent-led autonomy, (2) the benefits you expect, (3) the level of autonomy you’re comfortable with, and (4) how you prefer to interact with an AI-enabled transportation management system (TMS).
